Have you thought about watching anime but then decided against it because of reasons that others have put into your head? Well, I am going to explain why common reasons not to watch anime are false. Here is a list of some of the common reasons I have heard people should watch anime:

1. People will think you are weird.
2. You can’t connect to the characters because they are animated.
3. Love stories take too long to develop.
4. It is hard to understand Japanese culture.
5. The mouths of the characters don’t match up with the actual words.

Now I am going to counter argue each of these arguments.

1. First of all, what I am going to tell you is that you should never care what others think of you! You are unique in your own way and if watching anime sets you apart so be it. There is always the option that you just don’t tell your family or friends that you watch anime and make online friends that you can talk to about anime if you think people will think you are weird for watching anime. You can go to my contact page and I can be your first anime friend! Psalms 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.” This Bible verse shows that we are all wonderfully made so be your own self and watch anime no matter what anyone else thinks!
2. I think that this statement is completely false! Sure, the characters in anime are animated but being animated just shows how much more the characters can do! There are no barriers like there are with human actors. The anime characters can do anything they need to do with one click on a computer. Since there are so many more things that anime characters can do I think that we should be able to become even more captivated by the show and be able to connect to the characters in a heartbeat!
3. Sure, lots of romance anime take a long time to develop but I think that makes the show even better! When it takes a long time for two characters to understand their feelings for each other it just helps the audience to understand their relationship even better too! Here are some romance anime that don’t take quite as long to develop.
4. You may have tried watching anime and found it hard to understand because of some topics that only apply to Japanese culture. All I can say to this is take that as an opportunity to learn more about cultures around the world!
5. If you don’t like watching anime in subtitles and decide to watch it in dub but find that the mouths of the characters don’t match the words in your native language this could cause problems for you. Personally, I don’t even notice that the mouths don’t match up with the words but if that does bother you all I can recommend is to try watching anime with subtitles.
